Mumbai terror attack a major security lapse: Rajnath
Jammu, Dec. 15 (ANI): Asserting it would support every honest initiative of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government to combat terror, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh said today the Mumbai carnage was a major security lapse and stringent action should be taken against those responsible for this.
Rajnath Singh told reporters here, UPA government should also put pressure on Pakistan to dismantle the terror network on its soil and take action against perpetrators of the deadly assault on Mumbai.
"Mumbai attacks are the result of a major security lapse. Strict action should be taken against those responsible for this," he said after addressing an election rally here.
A few ultras should not be allowed to hold India, a nation of one billion plus, to ransom, Singh said adding the Center should mobilize the international community to put pressure on Pakistan to stop sponsoring terror.
"We will support every honest initiative of the Manmohan Singh Government to combat terror," he said.
Addressing the rally, the BJP chief said UPA Government''s week-kneed approach towards tackling terror had led to a handful of terrorists holding the entire Mumbai city hostage.
Terror activities had registered a phenomenal rise during the UPA rule, he said and accused the Congress-led Government of playing vote bank politics over the issue.
The BJP chief said terror attacks did take place during the NDA regime, but "we acted tough and give a befitting reply to its perpetrators."
A comprehensive strategy was chalked by the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government to combat terror, he said.
Singh, however, added, "terrorism has neither religion nor caste and it should not be equated with any community."(ANI)
