Mukherjee calls on Mubarak, discusses possibility of greater bilateral cooperation

Pranab MukherjeeSharm El Sheikh, July 2 : Visiting Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today called on Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and discussed the possibility of enhancing existing bilateral ties between the two countries.

The meeting which took place in the resort town of Sharm El Sheikh, lasted for about half an hour. Both the leaders discussed bilateral relationship between India and Egypt in the context of recent ministerial visit.

President Mubarak talked of India’s growth and progress, and possibilities of greater economic cooperation and trade between the two countries.

He also said that India occupies a prominent position in Egypt’s trade.

The two leaders also discussed Egypt’s forthcoming chairmanship of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM). Egypt is to assume the chairmanship in 2009.

The two leaders also discussed revitalization of NAM and south-south cooperation. (ANI)
