Karachi, Apr. 6: Three political parties in Pakistan’s Sindh province -- MQM, PML-Q and PML-F -- have decided not to field its candidates against the dominant Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for slots of chief minister, speaker and deputy speaker of Sindh Assembly.

According to The Nation, the PML-Q intends to promote politics of consensus in Sindh as it did in the centre.

Former Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Rahim told reporters here on Saturday that “We do not believe in politics of confrontation.”

A day earlier, the PPP and the MQM reached an agreement over the slots of Speaker and Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly.

This was decided in a joint meeting between the dialogue committees of the two parties at the residence of the PPP leader Zulfiqar Mirza on Saturday night.

Dr Farooq Sattar led the MQM team at the talks, while Zulfiqar Mirza, N D Khan, Syed Qaim Ali Shah and others represented the PPP, the Daily Times reported.

The latest political developments in Sindh took place as 161 members of new Sindh Assembly took oath on Saturday amidst unprecedented scenes of rowdysim by workers of two major political parties.

The rowdyism was witnessed in the assembly when PPP members entered the hall raising slogans of 'Jeay Bhutto' and flashing victory signs.

PPP workers showered rose petals from the officers’ gallery on their representatives in the provincial assembly.

Some waved PPP falgs from the galleries and displayed portraits of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. One overzealous supporter threw a plastic mug from the Governor’s Gallery in the hall.

The act prompted chief minister-designate Syed Qaim Ali Shah to react angrily and he exhorted workers to remain silent and cool.

Outgoing Speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah administered the oath to the members who read their vows in Sindhi, Urdu and English.

Members of PPPP wore black armbands during the entire session.

The charged political workers also smashed portraits of two former chief ministers hanging on the corridor walls.

In the House of 168, seven members are yet to take oath.

Meanwhile, negotiators of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) held a second round of fruitless talks on Saturday but agreed to continue discussion on the positive and negative outcomes of a power-sharing formula in Sindh.

The hour-long meeting was held at the residence of PPP MPA Dr Zulfikar Mirza. (ANI)
