Kuala Lumpur, May 23 : Malaysia has finalised the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the employment of Indian migrant workers and is set to sign the document with New Delhi once the Cabinet gives its approval, Human Resources Minister Dr. S. Subramaniam said.

Malaysia Nanban quoted him as saying that Malaysia would soon appoint a labour attaché at the Malaysian High Commission office in Chennai to look into the recruitment of workers.

He was speaking to reporters after holding talks with visiting Indian Minister of Communication, Information and Technology A. Raja in Kuala Lumpur.

He said he had assured the Indian government that its citizens would be treated well and given the same rights as other workers.

He was informed that the Indian Cabinet had given approval for the signing of the MoU, which would benefit mostly unskilled and semi-skilled Indian workers.

On another matter, Dr Subramaniam said that collaboration would be established between Malaysia’s skills development centres run by his ministry and leading technical and skills training institutes in India in training Indian workers to become skilled and semi-skilled.

He said that with this arrangement, Malaysia would be able to source only skilled workers from India. (ANI)
