All the four children of Esther Herzfeld have seen deterioration in their health at different point of lives. Numerous tests have been done on them, but nothing concrete has been found. Currently, it is thought that they have Charcot- Marie-Tooth (CMT), a genetic disease, owing to their symptoms but no one has been definitely diagnosed with it.

Esther Herzfeld said that it was so painful to see all of them to go through the same problem. Her one of four children, Tziporah, 9 at that time, was having something wrong as she used to fall over her own feet.

After repeated falls, the family underwent years of seeing specialists to know what the problem was and till now when she is 22, no disorder has been found. After years of this, Tziporah's brother, Tzvi started falling over branches and cobblestones.

This boy who used to be such a good athlete and fond of outdoor activities was on a wheel chair. He could not stand for more than a few seconds on his own. Rivka, the oldest child, did not face any problem till after high school when she was unable to complete a mountain walk during a trip to Israel.

After seeing all of them, Esther Herzfeld came to know that her youngest daughter Racheli, was also having the problem, as her symptoms were exactly similar of Tziporah. Esther Herzfeld said that she expects her children get definitely diagnosed so they can take part in experimental treatments and be cured.
