Mother’s milk best for babies

The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is inviting all to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, August 1-7, 2015. Experts say mother's milk helped in development of strong immune system in babies; it's easily digestible and contains all nutrients required for growth of babies.

The American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP) says breastfeeding plays a key role in prevention of development of type 1 and 2 diabetes, lymphoma, leukemia and Hodgkin's disease. Also, it reduces the risk of childhood obesity, asthma, food and environmental allergies.

The risk of death from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome also goes down 36% by breastfeeding. Universal breastfeeding is believed to have potential of reducing mortality risk by 13% worldwide.

Breastfeeding does not offer benefits for babies only, but mother too as they experience better emotional and physical health. Mother establishes a strong bond with babies by breastfeeding them which in turn decreases maternal risk of type 2 diabetes, breast and ovarian cancer. Also, it reduces osteoporosis, hypertension and cardiovascular disease rates.

Breastfeeding also expedites the birth recovery process including weight loss, less anxiety and postpartum depression.

Six months of breastfeeding is recommended by experts at AAP. According to the Marin Breastfeeding Coalition, breastfeeding is the only way of providing babies with the original fresh, local, nutrient-dense, and sustainable food.

Babies who are breastfed have a better health, which does not require working mothers to take off from their work to look after them, in contrast to those mothers who often miss work because their children fall sick as they were not breastfed and have a weak immune system.
