Mother of British girl who went missing faces trial in November

London  - The mother of 9-year-old British girl Shannon Matthews who was found hidden under a bed after missing for three weeks will go on trial on charges relating to her abduction later this year, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Karen Matthews, 32, will face trial in November together with Michael Donovan, a man known to her, and in whose home the girl was found hidden under a divan bed on February 19.

The mother, who it is believed to have known all along where Shannon was after she vanished for 24 days, will be tried for perverting the course of justice and child neglect.

Shannon Matthews had gone missing after a school swimming trip. Her disappearance sparked a massive police hunt in the area around Dewsbury, in the northern county of Yorkshire.

Donovan, an uncle of Karen Matthew's ex-partner, was arrested at the flat where Shannon was found. (dpa)
