Most of Italians feel that “grandma is the best cook”
According to a survey, a majority of Italian people feel that nobody can cook like grandma while others are of the opinion that traditional food has almost disappeared.
No one cooks as well as their grandmother, around 77 percent of the 1,800 Italian people surveyed said while 57 percent said that ingredients that made traditional unique dishes have disappeared.
The survey by lifestyle magazine Vie del Gusto said that Italy's tradition of family feasts supervised by grandmothers is fading as the quality of ingredients is on the decline in the country with one of the world's most celebrated cuisine.
Around half of Italians prefer eating in restaurants to the traditional large family feasts at home, according to the magazine. However around 80 percent of those surveyed said that it was very hard to find the taste of home-made dishes when they ate out.
Italians are increasingly forgoing neighborhood butchers and greengrocers for less expensive supermarkets, while workers who earlier went home for lunch now eat processed food close to the office, the survey further added.
Only 21 percent of Italians have regular family feasts, that too, on special occasions, like Christmas and Easter when grandmothers prepare 87 percent of the meals. (With Inputs from Agencies)
