Moser Baer may surprise consumers with Rs 1000 - 1500 DVD Player

Moser Baer Owns Rights to 800 Bollywood Movies
Moser Baer Entertainment has decided to enter low cost VCD and DVD player market. The company has approached many electronic companies to discuss possibilities of low cost DVD player. Moser Baer has been an aggressive player in Home entertainment market in recent couple of months. The company offered VCD for Rs 28 and DVD for just Rs 38 of famous Bollywood movies.

The company recently acquired 800 movie titles from Ultra Video. With the deal, Moser Baer will be able to offer more variety to its customers.

Moser Baer has rights for over 2500 Bollywood Titles now. With movies including Andaz Apna Apan, Sholay, Dillagi, Bombay to Goa, Koi Mil Gaya, 36 China Town, Hero No 1, Saagar, Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, the company will be able to attract good sales.

The market price for a DVD / VCD player in the market varies from Rs 3000 to 5000. Moser Baer is checking with Philips, Samsung, Mirc and LG to launch a model in Rs 1000 to 1500 range. The prices for DVD burners for Computers have reduced considerably in last few quarters. So, it is quite possible that Moser Baer will able to lock a deal with one of the electronic majors.

Moser Baer is also in talks with retail chains to offer its products for customers. The company will also setup exclusive stores across India over a period of two years. The stores will feature other products of Moser Baer as well.

As per research, there are 26 million users in India for the segment. The market has shown a growth of over 25 percent. With competitive pricing, Moser Baer will be able to beat the current players in the market. The DVD players from China based manufacturers also range from Rs 2000 – 3500. The offer from Moser Baer will be even lower than low-cost Chinese goods.

In an earlier statement, Moser Baer CEO Harish Dayani said, "With this acquisition, we own or have license for over 2500 Hindi titles and for over 400 Gujarati titles. This acquisition enables us to offer some latest hit titles to consumers at affordable prices points between Rs 28 - Rs 39 for VCD / DVD, by leveraging upon our patented and proprietary technology."

The company is in talks with other providers to get more titles. Ultra video owns rights to over 2200 movies. The move will boost Indian home entertainment industry. The low cost DVDs and CDs will also help in reducing piracy.
