More rocks fall on buried Cairo shanty town
Cairo - Another rockslide occurred on Tuesday in the Doweiqa shanty town on the outskirts of Cairo, the scene of an accident where hundreds of people were killed on September 6 when rocks dislodged from a cliff overhang.
No casualties were reported from Tuesday's rockslide as the area had been cordoned off by police.
The official death toll from the earlier accident has reached 101, security sources told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, dpa. However hundreds of bodies are believed to be still trapped under the rubble.
Although rescue efforts have been hampered by the inaccessibility of the site and the size of the fallen boulders, the accident has prompted criticism of the Egyptian government for being too slow to respond. (dpa)
