More players quizzed in Taiwan baseball match-fixing probe

More players quizzed in Taiwan baseball match-fixing probeTaipei  - Nine more Taiwan baseball players were questioned by prosecutors Wednesday over match-fixing allegations.

One of the players was questioned as a witness and eight as suspects, including former Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tsao Chin-hui and Chang Chih-chia, a former pitcher for Japan's Seibu Lions.

Both, Tsao, 28, who joined the Brother Elephants this year, and Chang, who now plays for the La New Bears, denied throwing games.

Prosecutors questioned 14 players on Monday and Tuesday but there have so far been no indictments.

Press reports said the match-fixing began in May, with gangsters paying players sums between 30,000 and 3 million Taiwan dollars (90,000 US dollars) for throwing games. (dpa)
