According to Activision, its newly released `Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3' game title has set a new five day worldwide sales record of more than $ 775 million.

The new figure is higher than the record of $ 650 million set by Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops previous year and the $US550 million set by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 two years ago. Activision claimed that Modern Warfare 3generated $400 million in revenue in its first 24 hours on store shelves.

"With $US775 million of sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in its first five days, Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for three consecutive years across all forms of entertainment," said Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick in the statement.

Kotick also said that the Call of Duty franchise has now generated more than $6 billion in revenue from around the world, making it among the most valued entertainment properties globally.

Meanwhile, thousands of enthusiastic gamers were queuing up outside stores in various countries to purchase the game on the day of its launch.
