MINI reveals cabin of first all-electric Cooper

British automobile manufacturer MINI has officially revealed the cabin of its new Cooper, which is expected to be launched by May 2024. MINI is owned by German luxury car brand BMW since 2000 and the company has been planning to shift to electric vehicle segment.

The MINI Cooper, the company’s first all-electric car, will surely mark the beginning of a new era for the brand. Thus, the company want to leave no stone unturned to attract buyers. Revealing the cabin of the upcoming electric Cooper, MINI showed that the new car adopts an aesthetic that updates the original Mini Cooper to fit in the modern world’s electric era.

The upcoming electric MINI Cooper has a drastically simplified dashboard. Comparing the new Cooper with the existing model make it look even simpler. For the driver, there is a head-up display but there are no longer instruments behind the steering wheel. In the mid of the dashboard, there is an eye-catching round screen that includes a speedometer and handles infotainment duties. An oval-shaped board beneath the screen features physical controls.

The new steering wheel of the upcoming vehicle promises thick grips at 2-o’clock and 10-o'clock positions. The multi-function buttons on the steering wheel look more prominent. The dashboard on the driver’s side features a gray gradient pattern, which is quite attractive. On the other end, it transitions to a houndstooth pattern. A thin slit embraces the HVAC vents.

When the EV is started, the lower portion of the dashboard gets illuminated with ambient lighting. The iconic brand’s emblem appears on the screen, before teal and yellow balls starts swirling before the launch of the display.

Describing the new Cooper, MINI states, “The first all-electric MINI is every bit the original iconic MINI, but powered for the roads of tomorrow. It fuses legendary go-kart feeling, distinctive design, and premium quality with emission-free driving. It’s driven by a high-voltage, 96-cell, 32.6 kWh (gross capacity) battery pack that’s mounted under the floor.”

The front-mounted e-motor has been rate at 181 hp, while its range has been reported at 186 miles on a single charge. A bigger battery will provide 249 miles of range.

Previously, the brand had revealed the exterior of the new electric Cooper. Just like the cabin, the exterior of the car is also quite simple. There is a wide octagonal element is in front, while the bottom features a trapezoidal grille. The headlights and two horizontal bars are surrounded by LEDs.

Scheduled to enter the market in May 2024, the all-electric Cooper is being developed by MINI in cooperation with Chinese major Great Wall Motor Company Limited.
