Milk producers demand hike in milk pricesDairy farmers have gone on strike demanding increase in milk prices. Milk producers are making milk pricing a state election issue. All the major chains slash milk prices to a dollar a litre.

All the milk producers said that deregulated dairy communities does not have something on which they can support and dairy towns are on the edge of destruction attributed to lower returns.

Farmers should gain support from the consumers said by Association president Charles Armstrong.

Milk producers are threatening the government to hike the procurement price of milk. U Mathivanan, Dairy development minister told the Assembly that last month only procurement prices of milk were increased and dairy farmers were paid more than other states like Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. He also told them that the matter will be discussed with chief minister M Karunanidhi.
