Microsoft trademarks “Sift” and “Swivel”

Scoring headlines for trademarking probable names, including “Kumo,” “Bing,” “Hook,” for its Live Search, the software giant Microsoft is now in news for trademaking new names – “Sift” and “Swivel”.

The paidContent.org has reported that Microsoft has trademarked the name “Sift”. According to the online media hub, the trademark description indicates that Microsoft is looking to use the tradename “Sift” in connection with mobile phones. According to trademark description, the name Sift stands for "operating system software for mobile phones; computer search engine software; computer programs for searching email, text messages, address and contact information.”

The paidContent.org has reported that when asked about “Sift,” reportedly trademarked in January, Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment saying that the software maker “is always looking at new offerings for its customers."

According to paidContent.org, “Sift” could be one of the new online services that Microsoft is expected to uncover by the launch of Windows Mobile 7 next year.

The paidContent.org has also reported that Microsoft has also trademarked the name “Swivel”. The company trademarked “Swivel” in March, and in its application, Microsoft stated that it intends to use “Swivel” for "operating system software for mobile phones (cell phones)”.

According to paidContent.org, Microsoft has already dropped the term "Windows Mobile" and instead has started using the more generic term "Windows phone" to describe phones running the Windows Mobile operating system.
