Mentor for Google Founders, Rajeev Motwani dead in swimming pool

Rajeev MotwaniRajeev Motwani, a Google mentor and professor from Stanford University, has died in a drowning incident in the backyard swimming pool of his Palo Alto home in California.

Born in Jammu and IIT Kanpur alumnus, Mr. Motwani was known for mentoring and advising founders of world's prestigious companies such as Goggle and PayPal.

The 47-year-old Motwani did not know how to swim as per sources. However, there is no official announcement regarding his untimely death that left tech community in a shock. He was declared dead at 12:28 pm, leaving behind his wife and two daughters.

Sergey Brin of Google, who was Motwani's student at Stanford, expressed grief at his sudden demise and termed it as un-recoverable loss for tech community of Silicon valley. He further added, "In addition to being a brilliant computer scientist, Rajeev was a very kind and amicable person and his door was always open."

Mr. Motwani earned his doctorate from University of California (Berkeley) after moving US in the mid-1980s. Then he served at Stanford University as director of graduate studies in computer science department, producing a large number of technocrats and entrepreneurs.
