McGrath Pleads With Sydney People To Participate In A Fun Run
Great Glenn McGrath, the former Australian fast bowler recently lost his wife. Now he is pleading with Sydney people to participate in a running festival, for raising funds for breast cancer research and treatment.
In 1996’ McGrath’s wife Jane, was first diagnosed with breast cancer. After her initial recovery, she noticed that during her treatment there was a shortage of breast care nurses. In 2002 McGrath and Jane founded the McGrath foundation.
McGrath told Channel Nine Television: “We did it last year, Jane, the kids and I. We close the bridge down and everyone can walk across it. Kids were very happy and excited about walking across the bridge.” “It’ll being back a lot of memories.”he added.
Apart from breast cancer, Jane also has a secondary cancer in her hip .In 2006 she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had surgery. She was recovering but complications appeared. McGrath had to stop international cricket for eight months for his wife’s recovery.
In Australia , more than 12,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year but in recent years early diagnosis has improved survival rates.
McGraths was awarded the ‘Member of the Order of Australia’ for his commitment to fight against the disease and raising public awareness of breast cancer.
The McGrath Foundation has raised millions of dollars for the fight against breast cancer.
