Mazda enjoys significant surge in MX-30 sales in July 2023

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), the North American arm of Japanese automotive manufacturer Mazda Motor Corporation, has announced a significant jump in Mazda MX-30 sales in July this year. However, the number of vehicles sold is very small compared to other EVs and it just looks impressive in terms of percentage. According to stats shared by the MNAO, which includes Mazda Motor of America, the sales of the all-electric Mazda MX-30 subcompact crossover SUV surged by nearly 250 per cent year-over-year in July to settle at 28 units. the figure appears to be a quite small, but it was the best result thus far this year. It was also the best result since May of 2022.

Compared to Mazda’s total sales volume, the sales reported for the Mazda MX-30 subcompact crossover SUV accounts for just 0.1 per cent. However, one should not ignore the fact that this model is available only in the US state of California.

Regardless of the increase in sales of the MX-30 electric SUV, the Japanese automaker will discontinue the EV in the U.S. market. An official statement regarding the decision has already been made.

When it comes to overall sales in the U.S. last month, MNAO revealed that it enjoyed a jump of almost 31 per cent year-over-year, with a total of 30,629 units sold. Year to date, (YTD), the automaker sold 214,412 vehicles, up 29 per cent from the corresponding seven-month period of 2022.

Thus, last month’s sales include 28 units of the MX-30 electric SUV (up 250 per cent year-over-year at 0.1 per cent share of the total sales volume). During the first seven months of this year, the company sold 94 units of the MX-30, which represents a decline of 71 per cent from the corresponding period of last year. Cumulatively, the automaker sold a total of 599 units in total over the last couple of years.

It is the low volume sales of the Mazda MX-30 electric SUV that is forcing the automaker to discontinue this model. For the near-term future, Mazda intends to keep concentrating on plug-in hybrid models, such as the CX-90 PHEV, which will soon be joined by the upcoming CX-70 PHEV. The company is also going to launch some non-rechargeable hybrid models, such as the CX 50 Hybrid. The Mazda CX-90 PHEV comes with a starting price tag of $47,445, and it promises a pure electric range of up to 26 miles (roughly 42 km) on a single charge. Total range of this model has been reported at 490 miles (roughly 788.5 km).
