Mayor Martin J. Walsh is also taking part in this week's Vatican-sponsored meetings. Walsh is among the top notch personalities from some of the world's most prominent cities to be participating in the meetings. Most likely, a join declaration addressing climate change and human trafficking will be signed by politicians on Wednesday.

Walsh thinks that Pope Francis has the ability to take the level of fights against climate change and human trafficking to another level. "We can take [the pope's] message out of the room, and as policy makers, mayors, and governors, we can direct policy without going through a lot of legislative stuff", stated Walsh.

He affirmed that there might be certain issues on which he might not agree with the pontiff, as he is an elected official and represents people belonging to different religions. But on a personal and spiritual level, Walsh said that he is a Catholic and Pope Francis is his pope.

As per the organizers of the event, many American politicians were invited, but the ones who have accepted the request are most Democrats. Walsh said that issues to be discussed in Rome are human issues, including stopping sexual exploitation in the US and the world and environment. Walsh said that they all have to save earth for future generations.

At personal level, Walsh believes that America can do much more to be the leader in the fight against climate change.
