Matthaeus insists that Racing Club deal is far from finalized
Hamburg - Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaeus insisted in an interview published on Monday that he has far from finalised a contract as coach of Argentina's Racing Club.
"There have been talks with the club. But nothing is decided yet," Matthaeus told Kicker sports magazine.
"Many things have to be considered around such a move. I need to know what kind of perspective the club offers, and not just short term. I need some time for that."
Matthaeus said he will decide over the next days whether "my wife and I will fly to Argentina this week for further talks."
Racing Club president Rodolfo Molina had said on Saturday that Matthaeus was due to arrive "next week" and to take over from Ricardo Caruso Lombardi, who resigned a fortnight ago.
Racing, one of the top sides in Argentina with seven national titles, are second from bottom and yet to win in 10 games.
Matthaeus captained Germany to the 1990 World Cup title and is the nation's most-capped player with 150 matches. As a coach he won league titles with Partizan Belgrade and Red Bull Salzburg and has also worked in Hungary, Israel and Brazil.(dpa)
