Mall Cop escapes monster challenge to stay atop US box office

New York/Los Angeles - The comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop remained in first place at North American box offices Friday-Sunday for a second straight weekend, holding off a sequel to the monster movie Underworld.

Mall Cop, starring comedian Kevin James as an overearnest shopping mall security guard, had three-day ticket revenue of 21.5 million dollars.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is the third instalment of a movie series about vampires at war with werewolves. (dpa)
