London, Sept 27 : Prince Charles’ wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has been immortalized in wax by the UK outpost of Madame Tussauds.

The royal’s wax model will now stand alongside those of her hubby, and steps sons Princes William and Harry in the newly-refurbished Royal Zone.

Looking on is the waxwork of Diana, Princess of Wales - placed 15ft away, facing the Duchess.

For the model, not only did Camilla sit the sculptor at Clarence House, but also picked out her outfit and accessories.

She chose a cornflower blue jacket and skirt, which she wore to Ascot in June 2005, with designer Anna Valentine specially recreating it for the model.

The Duchess also donated a pair of cream suede LK Bennett shoes and a Philip Treacy clutch bag.

The waxwork took Stephen Mansfield, one of the lead sculptors, four-and-a-half months to make.

Mr Mansfield said the Duchess was fascinated with the tray of eyeballs and hair samples.

“You swivel it around to 12 points . I think she found that quite
entertaining. She was fascinated by the tray of eyes and the hair samples,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

“She picked out the eyes she thought hers were like. She was very near but I found one that was a slightly better match.”

The waxwork is the first the London museum has made of the Duchess, and Ben Lovett, spokesman for Madame Tussauds, explained just why it took so long to get her waxed.

“When the Prince of Wales got married to the Duchess of Cornwall, there wasn’t that much public interest in having her here,” he said.

“In the last 12 months there has been a general warm swell of support for her.”

Also in the Royal Zone are the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen Mother, with Henry VIII and Elizabeth I nearby. (With inputs from ANI)
