Lufthansa to deploy Boeing 747-8 on Bangalore-Frankfurt routeGermany's national carrier, Lufthansa is planning to deploy world's longest passenger aircraft, Boeing 747-8 on its Bangalore-Frankfurt route later in the year.

The aircraft, which can accommodate 362 passengers on comfortable chambers, will touchdown in the south Indian city within 2012. The company had started using the plane on Delhi-Frankfurt route on Tuesday and said that it will add more jumbo jets to its impressive fleet this year.

A Lufthansa official said, "Two B747-8 aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2012. Among the destinations that Lufthansa will serve with these new aircraft is Bangalore."

The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has obtained consent from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to operate aircraft and is now preparing for the plane to touchdown at the airport of the IT city of India. The Boeing 747-8 has a about 224.4 feet is classified as a Code F aircraft by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

BIAL has already conducted safety-risk assessment for B747-8 operations and received approval from the regulator to operate the craft from the airport.

Meanwhile, the jumbo jet touched town at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Frankfurt-New Delhi flight makes India the first destination in Asia to receive the aircraft. South Asia Director Axel Hilgers has said that the response by the customers has been good to the inaugural flight.
