L&T to invest Rs. 300 billion by 2015

LTL&T Power Development Ltd. is planning to invest Rs. 300 billion to install new power plants of 5000 megawatt capacity, over the next six years time i. e. by 2015. Out of this Rs. 300 billion, Rs. 70-80 billion will come in from equity funding.

Also for the expansion with 5000 megawatt capacity, L&T Power Development will require 25 million tones of coal annually. The company will source one fifth of this from abroad.

The first power plant will be installed in the north Indian state of Punjab. As per the plans, this power plant will commence operations by January 2014 and will have the capacity of 1400 megawatt. The company has already made an investment of Rs. 5 billion in this power plant and plans to put in another Rs. 20 billion over the next two years time.

Apart from the Punjab power plant, there are two other power plants planned of 1600 megawatts capacity for each. One of these will be in Chhattisgarh and the location of the second one is still undisclosed.
