Lenovo gearing up for ThinkPad netbook for business customersScoring slew of acclaims and applauses for its IdeaPad netbooks, Lenovo is now gearing up for ThinkPad-branded netbook. The Australian magazine APC has reported that Lenovo is planning to develop ThinkPad netbook for business customers.

In an interview for APC late Thursday, Lenovo’s Worldwide Competitive Analyst Matthew Kohut stated that Lenovo is planning for a step ahead of the the IdeaPad netbooks to bring out a more business-friendly netbook with bigger screen size. Kohut said, "It’s becoming more interesting across the industry to get bigger screen sizes."

According to Kohut, Lenovo is considering to bring out a successor to its 2.6-lb., 10-in. IdeaPad S10 netbook, priced at $350, specifically meant for business customers; the IdeaPad line of netbooks is for consumers and not for business customers.

“It’s an area we’re exploring, but I can’t comment one way or the other. Watch this space, that’s all I can say,” Kohut said.

Kohut hinted that Lenovo may switch from Intel's Atom processors to the Consumer Ultra Low Voltage platform to help the ThinkPad netbooks offer significantly better performance.

Kohut stated that there’s “no question” that the lines are blurring between the popular but low-margin netbooks and higher-profit notebooks. He said, “How do we make sure the value proposition between netbooks and notebooks is clearly delineated?”

Additionally, Kohut revealed some details Lenovo’s second-generation IdeaPad netbook, the IdeaPad S20. He reported that the 12-inch IdeaPad S20 netbook will use the 1.66GHz Atom N280 and its corresponding 667MHz system bus, and the new GN40 chipset that will give it HD video decoding. Kohut disclosed that the IdeaPad S20 will have an option for built-in 3G in some areas, and it will also have the Linux-based Instant On front end of the IdeaPad S10e. The IdeaPad S20 will be released next month, However, Kohut didn’t make the clear the price of the netbook.
