Left, BSP, UNPA to launch nationwide campaign against UPA

New Delhi, July 23: After failing to destabilize the United Progressive Alliance Government, the leaders of the Left parties, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the United National Progressive Alliance today charged the Government of resorting to horse trading, black mailing and bribery to prove majority in the Lok Sabha.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat announced in the meeting of the leaders that the Third Front will launch a nationwide campaign against the Indo-US nuclear deal, inflation and bribery.

Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati said democracy was the biggest casualty of the UPA’s win.

Telangana Rashtriya Samithi President Chandrashekhar Rao said that in the coming days the TRS would work jointly with the BSP.

Telugu Desam Party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu said: “We are the real alternative to the UPA and the NDA.... horse trading and blackmailing helped the UPA to win.”

Former Karnataka Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy said that he would support Mayawati to strengthen the third front in the southern State.

"In future politics we will be going to stand by ''behenji'' (sister-Mayawati). “We would like to strengthen the Third Front in Karnataka", he said.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao also extended his support to Mayawati and said that they shall together decide the future course of action.

Regional parties and former Communist allies of the government decided to oppose the Congress led UPA government with the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP).

The government won the confidence motion with 275 votes in favour as against 256 for the opposition.

The government said it would now push ahead with the deal, which would give India access to foreign nuclear fuel and technology and end decades of isolation, as well as work towards reforms to liberalize the trillion-dollar economy.

The meeting of the leaders held at the residence of Mayawati here, was attended by Prakash Karat (CPM), A B Bardhan and D Raja (CPI), H D Deve Gowda (JDS), G Devrajan (Forward Bloc), Abani Ray (RSP), Ajit Singh (RLD), N Chandrababu Naidu (TDP), K Chandrashekhar Rao (TRS), Ajay Chautala (INLD) and Babulal Marandi (Jharkhand Vikas Morcha).
