Oslo  - A 39-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in central Norway on suspicion of war crimes in Kosovo, reports said. A custody hearing was due Wednesday in an Oslo district court.

The man, who was not named, was reported to have been in Orkanger in central Norway since July 2007.

Norway was tipped off by the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Jan Eirik Thomassen of the criminal investigation department told broadcaster NRK.

"The allegations date back to events in March 1999 when civilian Kosovo Albanians were expelled from their homes and in some cases forced to flee to Albania," Thomassen said.

Allegations included that the man set fire to some homes. dpa
