Kia EV9 wholesale shipments surpass EV6 in September 2023

South Korean automobile giant Kia Corporation has reported a remarkable surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales for the month of September, but it is the outstanding performance of its latest offering, the Kia EV9, which makes this achievement even more noteworthy. According to stats released by Kia, global vehicle sales of the company experienced a noteworthy year-over-year jump of 4.8 per cent, reaching a total of 261,322 units. During the first nine months of 2023, the automaker achieved a remarkable 8.4 per cent year-over-year growth, with a total of 2,354,072 vehicles sold. The company enjoyed impressive surge in wholesale shipments of E-GMP-based BEVs during last month, with a total of 10,322 units sld. This figure represents a substantial 69 per cent year-over-year increase.

As already mentioned above, the most intriguing development is the outstanding performance of the Kia EV9 electric crossover SUV in terms of wholesale shipments. Notably, the Kia EV9 recorded sales of 6,015 units, surpassing the Kia EV6, which could attract only 4,307 buyers. The sales figure mentioned for the Kia EV6 represents a year-over-year decline of 29 per cent. In fact, it is this e-SUV’s lowest result since the start of volume production in August 2021.

For the year-to-date figures, Kia has demonstrated substantial growth in wholesale shipments of its E-GMP-based electric cars, surpassing 86,000 units. This marks an impressive 41 percent year-over-year increase, highlighting Kia's strong commitment and success in the electric vehicle market.

Kia's wholesale shipments of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) year-to-date, along with their year-over-year changes, are as follows: EV6 sales jumped 23 per cent to 75,392 units, while EV9 sales settled at 11,332 units (new). Sales of E-GMP-based BEVs increased 41 per cent to settle 86,724 units. In terms of retail sales, the automaker reported 12,941 retail sales of all-electric cars outside of its home market. When combined with the wholesale shipments within the home market of South Korea, it allows for an estimation of the total volume for the month under review.

In the year-to-date figures, Kia's EV sales have seen impressive growth, with more than 115,000 BEVs sold so fa this year, marking a 9 per cent year-over-year growth. These sales account for nearly 5 per cent of the total volume. Notably, in 2022, the Korean brand exceeded 130,000 all-electric car sales, which is enough to highlight the company's commitment to and success in the EV market.
