Karachi police arrests Taliban leader, 3 others
Karachi, Oct. 19 : Pakistani security forces have arrested a Taliban leader and three other militants here, possibly averting a major attack on the city.
"The terrorists were planning for a big attack, but the city has been saved from a major disaster," the Dawn quoted Karachi police chief Waseem Ahmed, as saying.
Akhtar Zaman and his three colleagues were captured in a raid in the Sohrab Goth neighbourhood on Sunday. Weaponry including an anti-aircraft rocket launcher was seized, said Ahmed.
Zaman is said to be the head of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in Karachi, but the organisation has a cell structure in the city and no official local leader. (ANI)
