Jupiter, Venus Coming Close to Set a Show in Sky

If you love to gaze at the sky, then we have good news for you, the next few days have a special treat on offer – Jupiter and Venus are coming very close to each other. The two brightest planets will come so close in the evening sky that you can cover both with the thumb of your outstretched hand, said Sky & Telescope.

You should pray for good weather as it could be your party spoiler. Rest all is good to help you see the planets at twilight in the western sky. Among all the days, the two planets are visible in the evening sky, Tuesday is the best as the duo will appear so close together that they'll look like a brilliant double star.

It’s a rare event when two or more objects appear extremely close to each other in the night sky and are called conjunctions. The planets may appear bumping into one another, but they are far apart in reality. The distance of Venus from Earth is 56 million miles and Jupiter is 10 times farther out, at just over 550 million miles.

The title of being the second planet in the solar system is with Venus, whereas Jupiter is the fifth from the Sun.

In recent weeks, both the planets have come close to each other and Tuesday night will mark the conjunction’s peak.

The SPC planetarium and observatory, located in the Natural Science Building on the Gibbs campus at 6605 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg, will remain open from Monday to Wednesday from 8.45 to 10.30 pm for those interested in telescope viewings of the two planets.
