Jordan denies involvement in meeting of Iran opposition group
Amman - The Jordanian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the Iranian charge d'Affaires in Amman, Nasser Kanaai, to deny any involvement in a meeting of the Iranian opposition People's Mujahedin group, which was held in Paris on Saturday.
Kanaai was told that the participation of 12 Jordanian lawmakers and other politicians in the meeting "has nothing to do with the Jordanian official attitude", the ministry said in a statement.
"The Jordanian foreign policy has a well-known historical record of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other countries," the statement said.
The statement followed a day after Jordan's ambassador in Tehran, Ahmad Jalal, had been called on by Iran to explain the participation of the 12 Jordanian politicians in the People's Mujahedin conference. (dpa)
