Jet Airways seeks govt.’s permission to lease two A330 planes
Jet Airways has sought the government's permission to lease two Airbus 330-300s to replace two Airbus 330s-200s that are going off lease.
Nikos Kardassis, chief executive officer of the private carrier, announced on Sunday that the company had written to the government to permit it to lease the two proposed planes for induction in its fleet.
Kardassis further said that after leasing the two Airbus 330-300s the carrier would deploy them on the Mumbai-Newark (United States) route as part of its A330 planes replacement plan.
Speaking on the topic, Kardassis said, "These planes are being leased from the GE Capital's aviation arm and would be deployed on the ultra-long haul flights."
Officials from the civil aviation ministry also confirmed the development.
Early last month, airline senior vice-president for commerce & investor relations KG Vishwanath had said during the company's post-earnings analysts' call that four A330-300s would be inducted in the fleet by the end of current fiscal.
The A330s are all-round aircrafts that are quite capable of achieving efficiency while keeping operating costs considerably low.
