JD Sports reports 26% growth in 2009 profit

JD Sports reports 26% growth in 2009 profitJD Sports Fashion released its full year 2009 results today. The retailer said that the full year underlying profit was reported up by 26% for FY 2009, beating the estimates of market analysts. The company said that the increased profit was mainly attributable to the strong performance of its fashion brands focused at the teen to mid twenties age group. JD Sports also raised its full year dividend by 65%.

JD Sports reported underlying profit of £67.4 million for the full year ended January 2010, increasing by 26% compared to the previous corresponding year. This was reported the sixth consecutive annually growth in underlying profit of the company. The net profit beat the expectations of market analysts as they were anticipating a profit of £61.6 million for the year.

Total revenue of JD Sports was reported of £769.8 million, increasing by 14.8% while it was reported of £670.9 million in fiscal 2008. The company said that the increased annual revenue was attributable to the store closures by struggling rival JJB Sports. JD Sports reported a growth of 2.5% in its like for like revenue for FY 2009.

JD Sports also raised its full year dividends for 2009 by around 65%. The company said that it will pay a dividend of 14.7 pence per share for the year 2009.
