Jazz stop Lakers' seven-game win streak
Los Angeles - The Utah Jazz showed they're a pretty tough team to beat even without two of their top players.
Deron Williams had 31 points with 11 assists, Mehmet Okur scored 22, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 42.8 seconds left and the Jazz snapped the Los Angeles Lakers' seven-game winning streak with a thrilling 113-109 victory on Wednesday night.
"It's a great win for us going into the All-Star break, it's a confidence builder," Williams said. "It just shows that we're a good team despite all the injuries. It just proves we can win against the best teams in the league and we showed that tonight."
CJ Miles had 17 points, Ronnie Brewer added 16 for Utah (30-23) which without All-Star forward Carlos Boozer (knee) and Andrei Kirilenko (ankle) won for the fourth time in the last five games.
"We've won 30 games," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said. "I would never have dreamed it with the people that have missed games."
Kobe Bryant scored 37 points, Lamar Odom had 19 points with 19 rebounds for the league-best, but road weary Lakers (42-10) playing their eighth game in eight different cities.
"They play extremely well here but we just didn't play well defensively or hard enough," Bryant said. "We were tired a little bit down the stretch, but we still had our opportunities."
Bryant's three-pointer with 1:36 left capped a 13-3 run and put the Lakers ahead, 105-104. Paul Millsap's three-point play and Bryant's layup at the other end had the game squared at 107-apiece.
Williams then found Okur, who buried the three-pointer from the left wing, giving the Jazz the lead for good, 110-107.
With the Jazz ahead 112-109, Bryant drew a double-team, but he got the ball to Derek Fisher. However, the sharpshooting guard, missed consecutive game-tying three-point tries in the final seconds, before Williams hit one of two free throws to wrap up the win.
Elsewhere: Cleveland Cavaliers 109, Phoenix Suns 92 Mo Williams scored a career-high 44 points with seven three-pointers, LeBron James added 26 and the host Cavaliers stopped their first two-game winning streak of the season.
Amare Stoudemire, the subject of trade rumours, had 27 for Phoenix (28-23) which rested floor-leader Steve Nash.
Toronto Raptors 91, San Antonio Spurs 89 Andrea Bargnani scored 23 points, Roko Ukic added a career-high 22 and the Raptors handed the visiting Spurs just their third loss in the last 14 games.
Argentine Manu Ginobili led San Antonio (35-16) with a season-high tying 32 points, Frenchman Tony Parker had 22, while Tim Duncan finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Denver Nuggets 82, Orlando Magic 73 Carmelo Anthony had 29 points and the Nuggets held the Magic to a season-low point total to snap a 15-game losing streak at Orlando dating back to March 10, 1992.
Dwight Howard had 16 points with 15 rebounds for Orlando (38-13) which shot an icy 30 per cent from the field and committed a season-high 24 turnovers.
Atlanta Hawks 99, Detroit Pistons 95 Joe Johnson had 27 points, Flip Murray added 23 to lead a balanced scoring attack as the Hawks clipped the stumbling Pistons.
Allen Iverson scored 26 for visiting Detroit (27-24) which has dropped 13 of its last 18 games.
Charlotte Bobcats 101, Washington Wizards 89 D. J. Augustin scored 24 points and Vladimir Radmanovic added 21 as the host Bobcats won their second in a row.
Caron Butler led Eastern Conference-worst Washington (11-42) with 26 points.
Philadelphia 76ers 91, Memphis Grizzlies 87 Andre Miller scored 24 points, Andre Iguodala added 18, including the game-winning basket with 26 seconds left, sending the host Sixers to their fourth straight win.
Hakim Warrick topped Memphis (15-37) with a season-high 31 points.
Boston Celtics 89, New Orleans Hornets 77 Paul Pierce scored 30 points, and Celtics overcame the second half loss of All-Star Ray Allen (hyper-extended right thumb) for their eighth straight road win.
New Orleans' All-Star guard Chris Paul had 13 points and five assists after missing the last four games with a right groin strain.
Houston Rockets 94, Sacramento Kings 82 Yao Ming had 24 points with 18 rebounds, Argentine Luis Scola added 19 with 11 boards and the host Rockets crowned the league-worst Kings (11-43).
Milwaukee Bucks 122, Indiana Pacers 110 Richard Jefferson scored 32 points while Ramon Sessions had 15 with a season-high 17 assists and the Bucks (26-29) matched their entire win total of last season.
Danny Granger scored 26 points for Indiana (21-33) losers of nine consecutive road games.
LA Clippers 128, New York Knicks 124 (OT) Eric Gordon scored 30 points, while Baron Davis buried a key three-pointer with seven seconds left in overtime, to go along with a career-high 20 assists as the host Clippers sent the struggling Knicks to their sixth straight loss.
Nate Robinson topped the Knicks (21-31) with 33 points, 15 assists and nine rebounds.
Portland Trail Blazers 106, Oklahoma City Thunder 92 Brandon Roy scored 22 points and Travis Outlaw added 21 off the bench as the Trail Blazers improved to 20-5 at home.
