ISRO launches RH-200 rocket with students’ payload

ISRO launches RH-200 rocket with students’ payloadISRO has successfully launched an RH 200 technology rocket from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS). The rocket, which was launched with a payload taken from the students of Vellore Institute of Technology University (VITU), achieved a height of 60 km within just a couple of minutes.

The students' payload consisted of tri-axial accelerometers and a power switching module, along with a safe arm relay unit.

This is the first time a students’ indigenous rocket was launched, with the VSCC’s experts’ guidance.

Apparently, students of the Indian Institute of Space Technology (IIST) were also trying to come up with something like this. ISRO is making further efforts to offer primary experience in fields like design, fabrication and realization of a space mission at a cheaper rate, pertaining to space technology.

This successful launch marked the 395th endeavor of the RH 200. This rocket created history on January 2010 by becoming the first ever campaign with a sounding rocket launch.

It made six flights from TERLS that day, out of which five were made within duration of 3 hrs 40 minutes. It created this record with RH 300 MkII and RH 560 MkII.
