ISA advisory board to decide fate of Hindraf leaders

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 11: Five ethnic Indians belonging to the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) who were detained by authorities in Malaysia for spearheading a massive anti-government protests will face Internal Security Act (ISA) advisory board on Monday.

The three leaders - P. Uthayakumar, V. Ganabathirau and T. Vasanthakumar - and Hindraf lawyers R. Kenghadharan and M. Manoharan are being held at the Kamunting detention centre in Taiping.

Karpal Singh, counsel for four of them, has said that the five men would appear before the three-member board, chaired by a judge.

“The board will hear their representation and defence and give its recommendations to the king,” The New Straits Times Online quoted Singh, as saying.

Gobind Singh Deo will be appearing for R Kenghadharan, while the others are represented by Karpal, A. Sivanesan and M. Kulasegaran.

Karpal said the board could give its recommendations to the king to have the Hindraf members released. (ANI)
