Iran hopeful about finding framework for more talks

IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei Geneva  - Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeid Jalili said Thursday in Geneva he hoped to find a framework for further negotiations with the five permanent members of the Security Council and Germany.

Speaking after talks with top diplomats of these six countries, Jalili stressed that "regarding all activities we have in nuclear issues, all of these are in coordination with the agency," referring to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He said Iran was building its recently revealed second uranium plant for security reasons.

"We call this facility a legal facility," Jalili said, countering a statement by IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei that Iran had not complied with international laws by informing the Vienna-based agency only after the start of construction.

An agreement on continuing talks with Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States and Germany had been reached, he said.

"We talked about procedure of how to continue our talks (...)," he told reporters.

Jalili reiterated Iran's stance that every country should be allowed access to peaceful nuclear technology, and said he was rather concerned about nuclear weapons programmes "which cause instability and threats," possibly referring to Israel's nuclear arsenal.  dpa
