London, Nov. 16: Iran has claimed that it had been vindicated after UN experts reported that Tehran had been truthful in its disclosure of key aspects of its nuclear programme.

The key report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), however, failed to satisfy either Britain or the United States, with both countries saying they would continue to push for deeper sanctions against Iran at the UN Security Council.

Details of the report, prepared by the IAEA's head, Mohammed ElBaradei, for a meeting in Vienna next week, were kept secret, the Telegraph said.

But diplomats who had seen it said that while it found that Iran had made great strides towards transparency, it continued to ignore repeated appeals that it freeze uranium enrichment, which is a process crucial to the development of nuclear weapons. The report also confirmed that Iran has expanded its uranium enrichment facilities.

A senior UN diplomat described the assessment as "a glass half-full or half-empty" situation.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said: "The world will see that the Iranian nation has been right and the resistance of our nation has been correct". (ANI)
