Intel Ships High-Performance SSDs
Leading computer chip manufacturer, Intel rolled out high performing solid state disk (SSD) drive, X-25. It maintains less capacity but provides good data throughput. It is based on single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash technology. It can offer up to 250 MB/s sequential read speeds and up to 170 MB/s sequential write speeds.
It is specially fabricated to provide 75 microseconds read latency and 4 KB random read in addition to 4KB random write. It consumes 60 per cent less power as compared to speedy enterprise-class 2.5” hard drives.
New SSD is available for $695 with 32 GB capacity. Thus it is some bit costlier than multi level cell (MLC) NAND flash which is available for $595. It can be more popular when it would available at low rates in the time of global financial crisis. Intel would also release 160GB version of its SSD before the end of the fiscal.
