Indian shares zoom up more than 10 per cent on election results

India stock marketsNew Delhi - India's benchmark stock indices skyrocketed more than 10 per cent in morning trade Monday after weekend election results returned the Indian National Congress party-led governing alliance to power, ensuring stability of policies and programmes.

Trade was suspended for two hours until noon (0630 GMT) after the steep opening.

At the point of suspension, the 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) stood at 13,479.39, 10.73 per cent above Friday's close.

The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was at 4,203.3, up 14.48 per cent.

Automatic circuit breakers stop trading if there are rises above 10 per cent on the BSE and 15 per cent on the NSE.
