India Has A Right Platform For Space Research
According to the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) director B N Suresh, the successful space missions carried out by the country would enable India to share the resources in other planets in the outer space, apart from getting elevated to the prestigious group of countries that have successfully conducted space exploration missions.
On Wednesday, Suresh informed that the exploration and identification of sources of energy and water and mineral resources in the planets was the main motive of the Chandrayaan-I mission and the successful landing of the Moon Impact Probe on the lunar surface.
"There are indications of presence of helium-III in the vicinity of the moon." He said that even a cargo of helium-III could meet the energy requirement of the country for a few years.
Suresh had earlier informed, while inaugurating the three-day National Technical Fiesta, Momentum- 2008, organized by the Mechanical Engineering Association of the Government Engineering College on Wednesday, that following the interplanetary missions, especially Chandrayaan- I, India is involved in several colossal projects like sending the man to the moon and developing reusable launch vehicles.
"The success in the interplanetary missions carried out by the country has resulted in other developed countries evincing interest to associate with out space projects. The country is on the way to develop reusable launch vehicle technology demonstrator, which can release the satellite and return to the place of launching comfortably," he added.
He concluded that India has now a right platform for space research, since it is the third nation to put flag on the moon.
