India and Singapore sign deal for tourism promotion
India and Singapore will work to promote tourism between the two countries under a joint action plan signed between the Tourism Minister Ms. Selja and the Singapore Minister of Trade, Industry and Education S. Iswaran in New Delhi .
Kumari Selja said, "We have great historical relations with Singapore. We want investors from that country to invest in hotels, local tourism and a number of lucrative areas."
Ms. Selja said India has a potential to attract large number of tourists and government will do its best to promote India as a leading tourism destination. She hoped that Singapore will increase investment in the sector.
Earlier in 1994, both countries had signed such agreement which helped to increase tourist's activities between two countries. The number of tourists have crossed one lakh during last year.
Iswaran, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Education, Singapore, said, "To bring the tourism industries of India and Singapore on the right track, joint marketing is the right strategy.
India offers a great opportunity for my country."
