Islamabad, Nov 27: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), would opt out of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) if any of its components contested the January 8 general elections.

"If any party of the APDM supports the unconstitutional regime of President Pervez Musharraf by contesting the elections, I will opt out of the APDM," Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying.

He tore apart his nomination papers and said contesting the elections amounted to legalising the unconstitutional acts of the Musharraf regime.

The boycott of the election was a unanimous decision of the APDM, he said.

Expressing confidence that former Pakistan Prime Minister and leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Nawaz Sharif would abide by the APDM decisions, Khan said "I am sure, Nawaz Sharif will not take part in the elections."

The filing of nomination papers by the APDM candidates, including his party activists was because of lack of communication, he said.

"I feel that even filing of nomination papers amounts to betrayal of the judiciary," he said.

The judiciary, he said, had stood for its independence and shunned the doctrine of necessity for the first time in the country's history.

He said judges had made sacrifices to uphold the constitution by not taking oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order.

Khan said Lt. General Ashfaq Kiyani, the Pakistan Army's Vice Chief in the waiting to take over as the country's army chief when President General Musharraf decides to quit the military and become a civilian president, would not take orders from Musharraf and the PML-Q would treat him differently once he removed his uniform.
