Imran Khan demands impartial caretaker govt in Pakistan

Lahore, Sep 18: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former cricketer Imran Khan has underlined the need for the setting up of a neutral caretaker government in the country before the general elections.

"The forthcoming general elections cannot be held in the presence of President Pervez Musharraf," Khan said.
Khan opined that the representatives of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would resign from the national and provincial assemblies if the sitting assemblies elect Musharraf.

He said his party's stance is crystal clear that they do not want Musharraf any more, and stressed that under the General's presence free, fair and transparent elections would be a distant dream under Musharraf.

Khan said that the forthcoming elections would be held only between two parties -- one pro-Musharraf and the other anti-Musharraf.

Commenting on the Musharraf-Benazir deal, he said it would prove to be the end of the political career of the latter.

Pakistan is passing through a critical stage, and only free, fair and transparent elections can save the country from a major disaster, the Daily Times quoted Khan, as saying.

Khan also termed the amendment to the Presidential Election Rules as unconstitutional and illegal. (With Inputs from ANI)
