Canary Islands - A boat carrying about 60 would-be immigrants and a dead body Friday crossed over from Africa to the Spanish Canary Island of La Gomera, officials said.

The migrants included several minors. Further details were not immediately known.

Thousands of undocumented immigrants have travelled by sea from Africa to Spain this year.

Thousands are believed to have died by drowning or from thirst, hunger and exposure during such crossings over the past years, with around 50 losing their lives this July alone. (dpa)
