ICL-Vashi organises job mela
With a view to ensure that their students secure a job after their graduation, Vashi-based ICLES' Motilal Jhunjhunwala College organised a job mela for third year students from all departments. The mela held last week was in continuation of the college's career counselling and campus placements for the students. Some of the companies who participated in the mela included Caliber-Shell-Transource Ltd, C-Bay Systems, HDFC Bank, UTV among others.
About 300 students registered for the placements. The companies conducted a presentation and discussions with the students on campus, broadly covering the company profile, nature of the job, career growth plan, selection procedure, remuneration offered and nature of orientation or training programme. This was followed by a personal interview with the students.
Highlighting on the importance of such industry-academic interface, college principal Dr Jayashree Daoo said that the college has a very active career guidance and placement committee. "Guest lectures, industrial visits, seminars and workshops are conducted regularly for the students so that they are well equipped to meet the needs of the industry," she said. The coordinator of the event, Dr M A Madare said that despite the global recession this year, the college is glad that companies have come forward to recruit students. She also added that the alumni of the college had played a key role in networking with various companies. At the outset, Hiral Bhatt, Creative Head, UTV spoke to the media and management students about various career opportunities in television and films.
Summer internships and part time jobs were also offered to the first year and second year students by HDFC Bank. Daoo concluded that the job fare helped in building confidence as students got an opportunity to interact with the industry professionals in the campus.
