I don’t want to be PPP’s future PM candidate: Zardari

Karachi, Feb 7: Co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali ZardariCo-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari has said that he did not want to be the PPP’s future Prime Minister candidate if party comes to power in February 18 polls.

Zardari said that it was Babar Awan who in his personal capacity had advised him to accept the premier post, and added that his candidature for the PM’s slot was not the party decision.

Zardari, who announced on Monday in an interview to Newsweek that he would be the future Prime Minister if the people of Pakistan voted the PPP into power, was talking to the office-bearers of the Karachi Press Club at the Naudero house of his slain wife Benazir Bhutto.

He made it clear that the PPP has decided to abolish all anti-people amendments in the 1973 Constitution.

He said the Constitution was a comprehensive document and recognised by all the political parties and masses of the country, adding the rulers destroyed it by bringing amendment after amendment merely to justify their misdeeds and prolong their unlawful tenure.

Zardari said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto knew that she would be assassinated, but she risked her life and dared return to Pakistan to save the federation and the constitutional rights of the people of Pakistan.

He criticised the PML-Q, and said he did not recognise the PML-Q as a political party instead it was a group of self-centred political orphans.

He added a few names in the PML-Q enjoyed a good reputation, and his party was ready to talk to them, but there was no possibility of direct dealing with them.

Zardari said the commitments agreed upon between Benazir and the Musharraf regime had been buried with her assassination.

The News quoted him as saying that with the consent of the senior PPP leadership he would resume talks with the caretaker set up if they invited him.

Zardari clarified that no PPP leader or worker had objected to the political will of Benazir Bhutto, but to his amazement some politically rejected elements were exploiting the situation and whispering about the legitimacy of the will. (ANI)
