Hyundai Motor sales fall 4.6 percent in august
South Korean automotive giant, Hyundai Motor has reported its first fall in auto sales during the month of August in more than three years.
The company said that its total vehicle sales fell 4.6 percent in August 2012 compared to the same month of the previous year. The world's fifth largest carmaker along with affiliate Kia Motors sold a total of 293,924 vehicles in August, marking its first fall since May 2009. The company's sales in the domestic market fell 30 percent while its global sales rose 0.4 percent in the month.
The fall comes after a series of small and partial strikes by workers at the company's facilities in South Korea. Company officials have said that the Hyundai is looking to make up for the loss of 76,723 cars with additional work in order to be able to meet its annual sales target for the current financial year.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the second biggest contender in the Indian market, said that its sales have increased around 5.9 per cent in the India market for the month of August 2012. However, the total sales for the month of August fell 8 per cent to 46,886 units compared to 51,012 units in the August of 2011.
