Huawei likely to handle Airtel’s 4G launch in DelhiIndia's leading telecom service provider, Bharti Airtel is most likely to select China's network equipment maker, Huawei for the roll out of its 4G services in the major telecom circles including Delhi and Mumbai.

Airtel had acquired Qualcomm's wireless broadband permits for operating in four circles in the country. Huawei is set to supply 6,000-odd base stations (BTSs) for the roll out of the company's improved and much faster data services in Delhi and Mumbai telecom circles. According to estimates, the cost of rolling out 4G networks in both the cirles would be around $150 million or Rs 810 crore at the rate of $25,000 or Rs 13.5 lakh per base station.

The total deal could be valued in excess of $200 million or Rs. 1,100 crore if Airtel asks the company to manage these networks as well. The company will become the first in the country to offer both voice and data based plan based on the 4g network in the country.

Airtel ahd earlier announced that it is planning to launch new 4G-based voice calling services in Pune. Airtel had appointed Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy its Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) voice solution in its TD-LTE network in the city.
