HP Regains Top Position in India's PC MarketThird quarter ended December 2010 registered HP on the top position. Technology giant Hewlett Packard (HP) had gained market share of 17.3% in terms of sales. Dell was put out of the place with 14.2% share and Acer holding the third position with 11.5%.

After slipping from last two quarters in Indian PC market HP regained its number one position in the third quarter including both notebooks and desktops.

HP and HCL shared top position with 10.86% and 10.78% shares in terms of desktop PC sales respectively. Acer grabs its third position. While in notebooks PCs. HP retained its number one position with the market share of 26.2%. Dell bagged second position and Acer is on the third spot.

For the September quarter 2010, Dell had outstandingly performed in desktop PC segment and achieved number one position. Dell was also the leader in overall shipments in the second quarter of 2010 due to better marketing and distribution.

Market research firm IDC’s lead PC analyst Sumanta Mukherjee said that it is still an open fight between Dell and HP for the top position. She also said that it would be interesting to see that whether HP can maintain its top position in the next quarter also when large corporate spending rebounds.
